Nourish Your Fertility Naturally On Your Journey to Pregnancy

Fertility rates for women nearly halve between the ages of 30 and 40. *

Increased modern stress and long term birth-control usage can make it even harder **.

Freya can help.

Chinese herbal medicine has been shown to improve pregnancy rates 2-fold within a 3-6 month period. ***

“I work really long hours and when my period disappeared, I was sort of relieved. I didn’t have a menstrual cycle for years and just sort of forgot about it until I met Mitch. We just sort of figured we’d get pregnant when we were ready.

Four years later and getting stressed and anxious about my fertility, I went to Marco for acupuncture at the recommendation of our primary care doctor. Marco recommended taking Freya and it was like magic, my cycle returned.

What was even better was my energy levels and libido also really ramped up and little things like my nails being brittle went away.

I’m 6 months pregnant now and super grateful for Freya!”

- Jani (37 years old, Boulder CO)

“Today was the first I ovulated in the last 4 months. Yay!!

Big Win! Excited!”

Menstrual support (Day 1-7)

This formula should be taken starting the first day of your menstrual cycle and then the following 6 days after. This formula is rooted in the ancestral traditions of Traditional East Asian medicine and according to the tradition it gently invigorates blood, helps alleviate pain, and harmonizes the meridians that govern conception.

The classic combination of white peony root (bai shao) , ligusticum root (chuan xiong), angelica root (dang gui) and nut grass rhizome (xiang fu) support relaxing uterine muscle tension and benefit healthy menstruation. The other herbs like ginger (sheng jiang), monk fruit (luo han guo), cherokee rose hip (Mei Gui Hua) and the Poria mushroom (fu ling) balance out the formula in terms of both taste and create a balanced support for wellbeing. It tastes pleasant and rootsy with a gentle warmth that is like having your favorite hot water bottle on the most challenging day of your cycle.

This formula can be especially supportive if your cycles have become absent due to intense stress, high level physical training, IUDs or hormonal birth control. Often due to tension and stress, the menstrual blood can get blocked according to traditional chinese medicine and this can cause abnormal growth and imbalances in the reproductive system. By taking blood invigorating herbs on the week of your cycle, you can support your uterus in letting go off the old layers built up and lay the foundation for a healthy uterus to begin your next cycle.

Do not take this formula when you become pregnant and if you are on any medications, please consult your local licensed acupuncturist or integrative physician.

Daily support (Day 8-20)

Our daily formula is taken from day 8 of your cycle until the week before your next menses begins. Freya Daily is designed to support the development of healthy follicles and to regulate optimal ovulation. In Traditional Chinese medicine terms, this formula nourishes the blood and the kidney essence. This kidney essence is considered to be a most valuable treasure in Chinese culture and it is the deep well which we draw our fertility and our deepest will from. Often this kidney essence, called jing, is depleted through over work and excessive stress in our fast paced culture. You can imagine jing as the deep reservoir of energy that we tap into when we need extra energy in our lives. This can be tapped for running a marathon, pulling an all-nighter at work or the dance floor, or this stored energy can be used for making babies. Sometimes, we’ve overdrawn from the well and need some support in restoring our reserves.

The combination of super fruits Goji berries (Gou qi zi), Schizandra berries (Wu wei zi) with Cornelian cherry (Shan zhu yu) adds restorative nutritive factor to building up blood and kidney essence. When we combine this Horny Goat weed (Yin Yang huo) and Cuscata seed (Tu si zi), we create a powerful tonic to strengthen the essence and nourish the reproductive organs.

This formula doesn’t have to be taken continuously if you are feeling strong and resourced, but if you feel like you have over done it or are fatigued after your cycle, this can be a a game changer! If you find your sexual drive feels over-revved on this formula or your feel overly energized, you can dial it back to a third of the normal dose as well. This is also a useful formula to share with a male partner to support their fertility as well.

Luteal Support (day 21-28)

Take this formula the week before your menstrual cycle and you may be happily surprised with a much smoother week before your cycle comes and a gradual diminishing of menstrual cramps. This formula has been a godsend for many women and this basic formula has been used for thousands of years to regulate the hormones in menstruating women and to support reproductive health.

In traditional Chinese medicine, during the luteal phase, which occurs the week before menstruation, it is important to move the liver qi and invigorates the blood. Our liver qi gets stagnant when we are frustrated or don’t get enough movement in our lives and it has a huge impact on our reproductive health. When our liver qi is moving smoothly, we feel relaxed and resourced. When our liver qi is stagnant, many of us know about the horrible menstrual cramps and emotional roller coaster that can result.

The modern environment is full of man made chemicals that mimic many of the natural hormones in our body and we need support for our hormonal health more than ever. We can think of the hormones as messengers within the body, telling the body when to start and end many crucial biological processes. Thankfully, we have our menstrual cycle to move and reset our hormonal balance but sometimes it needs a little help to do it right. If you have really challenging menstrual cycles like many modern women today, this formula can make a difference in as soon as two full menstrual cycles if taken regularly the week before your cycle.

In this formula, the liver qi moving herb, Buplerum root (Chai hu) is combined with other herbs to gently invigorate and nourish the blood to have a smoother and less painful menstrual cycle. We combine this nourishing formula with Mimosa bark which is known throughout Asia as the “Bark of Collective Happiness” which eases tension and has deeply relaxing effect on the mind, body and spirit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use Freya?
First, select the right Freya formula for the day depending on where you are in your cycle:

Day 1 (when you start to bleed) to Day 7 (or the last day you bleed, if your cycle is longer) is when you will take the MENSTRUAL FORMULA.

Day 8 (or the first day after your period) to Day 20 is when you will take the DAILY FORMULA

Day 21 to Day 28 (or the day until your period starts) is when you will take the LUTEAL FORMULA.

Second, twice a day drink your selected Freya formula for where you are in your cycle.

Twice a day (ideally morning and evening), mix 2 scoops of Freya into 6-8 ounces of warm water. Take the appropriate formula depending on which day in your cycle you are:

MENSTRUAL FORMULA (cycle day 1 to 7) — take 2 scoops each time

DAILY FORMULA (cycle day 8 to 20) — take 2 scoops each time

LUTEAL FORMULA (cycle day 21 to 28) — take 2 scoops each time

If your period does not start, keep taking the LUTEAL FORMULA until your period begins, or until a pregnancy test shows positive, at which point you can stop taking Freya (and enjoy being pregnant!).

When should I start taking Freya if I want to get pregnant?
Should I take Freya if I'm using birth control?
Is Freya safe to use if I have an IUD or NuvaRing?
Should I continue taking Freya when I get pregnant?
Freya is designed to support your fertility up to the point of getting pregnant. Don’t take Freya once you have confirmed your pregnancy. The only formula that would be contraindicated for pregnancy would be the menstrual formula which you’d only take if you are bleeding.

Can Freya Help with Blocked Fallopian Tubes?
Freya can be helpful in the case of blocked tubes but you will also need additional herbs and care with a skilled local acupuncturist and Chinese medicine doctor. Please forward this article to your local acupuncturist.
Can I take Freya if I'm using clomid?
You can take Freya while on clomid but I’d recommend concurrently working with a local acupuncturist. Often your reproductive endocrinologist may recommend against taking supplements while using ART, but many who work with acupuncture support additional supplementation.
